In two weeks, Steve Jobs will make his keynote address at WWDC, where he is expected to introduce the next model of iPhone. There have been a number of leaks already, so people who follow those things already expect a new case, front facing camera, flash for the camera, and so on.
But what else will be announced. Will there be a demonstration of the Mac OSX 10.7 system? I think so, but it is uncertain. The emphasis seems to be on the iPhone OS for now.
As always, people wonder if there will be a “one more thing” moment. But the fact is, there hasn’t been a “one more thing” in quite some time. But this time, I think there may be. Here is my guess:
A new model of AppleTV will be demonstrated. This one will be all-new hardware. There will be video inputs and outputs, so you can place it between your cable set top box and the TV. HDMI, and others, possibly component in and DisplayPort out. And, there will be wired and wireless Network connections. It will show 1080p and 720p video, and even have a 1024 by 768 SD mode. But the big change is the CPU will be replaced with an A4 or follow-on chip. And it will run the iPhone OS 4.0 system.
The device will be like an iPad permanently hooked up to your TV. It can pass-through your regular cable TV, show movies from your computer like the current AppleTV, let you rent or buy Movies through iTunes, run iPad apps like Netflix, or run any of the other 200,000 iPad-compatible apps from the App store. Play games, show Keynote presentations, or anything you want, on your TV. New apps will be able to overlay their video on top of the pass-through video, so they can become widgets that do things like show the news on a ticker, the weather, or game scores while you watch.
The new Apple TV will be the Google TV killer.
